Ekiti State Acting Chief Judge, Justice Lekan Ogunmoye
Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has sworn in Justice Lekan Ogunmoye as the acting Chief Judge of the state.
Ogunmoye replaces the late Chief Judge, Justice Oyewole Adeyeye, who passed away on 4 November 2024.
The governor, who performed the swearing-in formalities at a brief and solemn ceremony in Ado Ekiti on Monday, affirmed that the inauguration was necessary to sustain judicial services, stressing that nature abhors a vacuum.
The inauguration, according to the governor, was in accordance with the powers conferred on him under Section 271 (4) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999, as amended.
While congratulating Justice Ogunmoye on his new position, Oyebanji noted that the situation called for sober reflection as well as a personal challenge for the acting Chief Judge.
He urged him to apply his high level of competence, dedication, hard work, and professionalism to further develop the justice sector.
“I have no doubt about your competency and leadership acumen; I, therefore, charge you to lead the judiciary during this moment of transition with humility, brotherly solidarity, and experience.”
“I also want to urge you to reflect deeply on the oath you have just taken, which commits you to discharge your duties to the best of your ability and faithfulness, in accordance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he stated.
Oyebanji reflected on the death of the former Chief Judge, saying, “On 4 November 2024, Ekiti lost a rare gem, a perfect gentleman, and an epitome of judicial integrity, Justice Adeyeye, a distinguished Chief Judge of Ekiti State, who died in active service.
“He was a dedicated and respected jurist, who throughout his life dedicated himself to upholding the rule of law and ensuring access to justice. He will always be remembered for his contributions to the development of justice in our dear state. His legacy of honesty, professionalism, and erudition as a judge will never be forgotten.”
In his response, the acting Chief Judge expressed gratitude to the governor for the appointment, pledging to dispense fair and timely justice for the sustained development of the state.
Ogunmoye disclosed that the judiciary had enjoyed maximum cooperation and support under the Oyebanji administration, particularly for the governor’s commitment and passion for the arm of government.
The acting Chief Judge called for more collaboration to help him continue the impressive legacies of his predecessors and ensure the prompt delivery of justice.
He also solicited the government’s support to help transition the justice system from analogue to digital delivery and to improve the welfare of workers.
