A new Comptroller for the Oyo/Osun Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, Comptroller Joseph Adelaja, has resumed.
Adelaja took over from the outgoing Area Comptroller of the Command, Dr Ben Oramalugo.
A formal ceremony marking the handing over between the outgoing Area Controller and the incoming Area Comptroller, took place on Friday, at the operational headquarters of the command in Ibadan, Oyo State capital.
The change in leadership was contained in a statement on Saturday, issued by the command’s Public Relations Officer, ASC Abdulmalik Akintola, and made available to newsmen in Ibadan.
The statement commended Oramalugo for serving the command with dedication, commitment and remarkable leadership.
According to the statement, Oramalugo, at the event, recounted his achievements in “revenue generation, anti-smuggling operations, and the enforcement of customs regulations”, all of which he said, contributed positively to the socio-economic growth of the region and the country at large during his tenure.
He thanked the officers and men of the command for their support and cooperation throughout his tenure, emphasising the importance of teamwork and discipline in achieving the mandate of the Nigeria Customs Service.
He also urged the command to remain resolute in the fight against illicit trade and smuggling.
Taking over the mantle of leadership, Adelaja expressed his appreciation for the warm reception extended to him, reaffirming his commitment to building on the legacy left by his predecessor.
The new Area Command’s Comptroller promised to “uphold the core values of the Nigeria Customs Service, including integrity, professionalism, and service excellence. ”
He also emphasised his readiness to ensure the Command’s continuity in contributing significantly to the collection of government revenue and the fight against economic sabotage.
At the ceremony, senior officers of the command pledged their support for the new leadership.
“This transition represents a continued commitment by the Nigeria Customs Service to ensure efficiency, transparency, and innovation in all its operations, ultimately contributing to national development,” the statement concluded.
