The Chairman of the Oyo State Community and Social Development Agency, Abideen Adeaga, on Monday, presented ‘certificates of completion’ to 14 communities across the state for successfully completing the first 28 micro-projects funded in 2024.

This was contained in a statement by the agency’s Project Public Relations Officer, Alhazan Rilwan, in Ibadan, the state capital.

The communities include Lagbedu Orile in Ogo-Oluwa Local Government, Ajaawa, Olorunsogo-Ifesowapo in Ogbomoso North Local Government, Oremeji-Atolu-Idi Oro in Ona Ara Local Government, Ibadan, Ope-Odu/Alapata/Oja Baale community in Lagelu Local Government, Irewolede community in Ogbomoso South Local Government, Abebi-Opo Yeosa-Ifesowapo community in Ibadan North Local Government, Ibadan, and Oorelope community in Oorelope Local Government.

Others are Okan-Awuru community in Saki East Local Government, Sepeteri, Irawo Parapo community in Atisbo Local Government, Lagun community in Lagelu Local Government, Ibadan, Olorunbawase/Oke Odo community in Ibarapa Central Local Government, Igboora, Idera Oluwa community in Ibadan North-East Local Government, Ibadan, Aroro

Makinde community in Akinyele Local Government, and Kobomoje-Ogundepo community in Ibadan South-East Local Government, Ibadan.

Many of the communities, according to the Chairman, undertook the construction or renovation of blocks of classrooms with the procurement of new furniture and VIP toilets, as well as the drilling of motorised boreholes. Others focused on the construction of community health centres with boreholes, while some built culverts and lined drainages to control flooding.

Adeaga commended the 14 communities for their performance, noting that they completed the projects within the specified timeframe, used quality materials, and showed a commitment to maintaining the projects after completion.

“I score the communities 85 per cent for the work they have done. It is a testament to the fact that they adopted these projects as their own from the moment they were funded and commenced work. You can see the quality materials used, which assures us that the projects will last for generations. They also assured us that they will monitor and maintain them when in use.

“These communities have given us hope that the efforts of our amiable Governor, Seyi Makinde, to bring smiles to communities across the state through strategic interventions in education, water, health, and erosion control, are not in vain. We appreciate them for staying the course and taking ownership of these projects.

“As we celebrate this milestone, achieved with the first projects funded in 2024, and mark the one-year anniversary of the agency’s board, we also thank the Governor for his support in approving another 28 projects after this, and an additional 132 micro-projects for 66 communities, which were disbursed last week.

“As previously reported, after last week’s disbursement, the Governor graciously approved the increase of the project fund from N15 million per Community Development Plan to N18 million, to cushion the effects of the current rise in material costs. This demonstrates his strong interest in the well-being of our people.

“I would also like to express my gratitude to the World Bank, the Federal Government of Nigeria, and other stakeholders for their support in our community development efforts, and I must not forget to commend the resilience of the agency’s workforce, who performed excellently,” Adeaga said.
