Oyo protesters condemn planned demolition of houses for road construction

Affected residents of the ongoing demolition by the Oyo State Government in Ona Ara and Oluyole Local Government Areas of the state on Sunday staged a protest to appeal to the state governor, Seyi Makinde, to come to their aid.

The PUNCH reports that the government had, last Tuesday, commenced demolition of some structures close to the circular road in the council areas

The affected communities are Fashade; Aba Osho; Igbalefa; Adigbe; Badeku; Akamo; Alase; Ojoku; Dare; Isase; Oleke Meji as well as Ogido, all within the local government area.

Our correspondent, who monitored the protest, observed that children, women and aged ones wielded different placards with various inscriptions such as, “Governor Makinde, please come to our aid,” “No more Circular Corridor,” “Mr. Governor, don’t kill us,” amongst others.

Scores of structures including residential houses, churches, mosques, among others have been demolished with over 1,000 additional property already marked for demolition within the local government areas.
