The Oyo State Government has urged an international organisation, Water Aid, to provide it with grants to revive the state’s water sector.

The Executive Chairman of the Oyo State Water Corporation, Elias Adeojo, in a statement made available to PUNCH Online on Sunday, disclosed that the state government is seeking collaboration with the Nigerian Brewery to access the grant.

Adeojo disclosed that the partnership with Water Aid was aimed at ensuring that residents of the state have access to portable water supply.

He said, “As a response to the government’s call to action for support to its water sector, WaterAid Nigeria, in collaboration with our corporation is championing a course of potable water in our dear state.

“The Oyo State Government is seeking for special grant from a Non-governmental organization, Water Aid International so as to revive the state’s ailing water sector.

“The grant, when accessed will target communities grappling with water scarcity and inadequate sanitation facilities, as well as promote sustainable hygiene practices.

“The government’s commitment to it’s citizen’s wellbeing would pave way for its eligibility to access a 100 Thousand Euros grant by Water AID International.”

Adeojo stated further that the Water AID fund would be used for water sanitation, hygiene and extension of water pipelines, adding that the grant is for projects located in African countries.

The Chairman who stated that the grant would be judiciously used for the purpose it is meant for if granted, said that the Nigeria Brewery has given its nod to help facilitate the grant.

“The Brewery Manager, Mr Seun Akinwale eulogized the leadership qualities of the Governor of the State, Engr. Seyi Makinde.

“He thereafter promised to always liaise with the Corporation in the area of provision of adequate water to the habitants of the State,” the statement concluded.
