The Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board has stated that 545 candidates with disabilities will be interviewed at the board’s headquarters in Ibadan on September 10 and 11.

This was made known by the Chairman, OYOSUBEB, Dr Nureni Adeniran, during a visit by the Oyo State Agency for People with Disabilities, led by the Director-General, Ayodele Adekanmbi, on Thursday.

The visit formed the concluding arrangements for the forthcoming interview exercise by the board for people with disabilities.

Recalled that the board fixed September 10 and 11 as interview dates for applicants with disabilities and September 12 and 13 for caregivers.

Adeniran said candidates from Oke-Ogun, Ibarapa, Ogbomoso and Oyo would be interviewed on September 10, while candidates from Ibadan main city and Ibadan less city would be interviewed on September 11.

He said though the board was constrained by other criteria for the recruitment such as merit, gender, and local government spread, among others, the welfare of those with disabilities was key to the present administration.

“The board is committed to prioritising persons with disabilities and will continue to do so. We have enough special schools for them to teach. There are 22 special basic schools across the three senatorial districts in Oyo State.

“The Seyi Makinde-led administration is committed to making life better for them without any form of discrimination or rejection,” Adeniran said.

Adekanmbi lauded the board for implementing an all-inclusive exercise which, he said, was aimed at strengthening the workforce of the state.

He said the board had made arrangements for the visually impaired in the areas of provision for Braille question papers and required tools to participate in the interview independently, including arrangements for the deaf and the physically challenged.

Adekanmbi said the inclusion of his agency by the board encouraged full participation and inclusion of PWDs in the recruitment of teachers and also increased awareness about disability rights and issues across the board.

“To make the arrangements easy, the candidates will be divided into three clusters: blind, deaf and the physically disabled,” he said.

Also present at the meeting were the Executive Secretary of the SUBEB, Mrs Olaide Ladipo, Special Assistant to the Governor on Disabilities, and top management members of the board.
