Naziru Idris Ya’u, a correspondent for Abubakar Rimi Television stationed at the Kano State Government House, narrowly escaped a fatal incident on Friday evening when he was struck by a stray bullet at the Government House.
The source of the stray bullet, which struck Ya’u around 6:30 pm, remains unknown as of Saturday morning, with both security personnel and Government House officials maintaining silence on the matter.
Ya’u was promptly taken to the Government House clinic for medical treatment following the incident, where he received necessary care for the injury sustained. Medical staff at the clinic noted that Ya’u was fortunate as the bullet did not hit him at close range.
In response to the incident, police officers assigned to the Government House have initiated an investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
As of the time of this report, neither the Kano Government House nor the State Police Command has issued an official statement regarding the incident. Attempts to contact Sanusi Tofa, the Director General of Media and Publicity, were unsuccessful as he declined multiple phone calls.
However, the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Police Command, SP Haruna Abdullahi, stated that the incident had not been reported to the command, promising to look into the matter further.
