EXCLUSIVE: Paradigm has signed veteran actor Ben Chaplin for representation.
Currently, Chaplin can be seen starring opposite Peter Sarsgaard and John Magaro in September 5, Tim Fehlbaum’s historical thriller examining the 1972 Munich Olympic hostage crisis from the perspective of the ABC Sports broadcasting team. The film delves into how the crew, initially covering the Olympics, swiftly transitioned to reporting on the unfolding tragedy involving Israeli athletes taken hostage by the Palestinian group Black September. This event marked a pivotal moment in live news coverage, as the world watched the crisis unfold in real-time.
Chaplin plays Marvin Bader, a seasoned ABC Sports producer who plays a crucial role in the network’s coverage of the hostage situation. His work in the film earned him the Best Actor Award from the Denver Film Festival.
Premiering to strong reviews out of Venice, September 5 hits limits theaters on December 13 before expanding nationwide on January 17 for MLK Day weekend. Paramount Pictures’ Republic Pictures acquired worldwide sales rights outside Germany, Austria and Switzerland ahead of Venice, and upon seeing critical response to the film out of major festivals, the decision was made to keep the project in house, with Paramount distributing.
Perhaps best known for his role as Pvt. Bell in Terrence Malick’s The Thin Red Line, opposite Sean Penn, George Clooney and Woody Harrelson, Chaplin has also been seen in the Ian McEwan-scripted The Children Act, David Yates’ The Legend Of Tarzan, and Oliver Stone’s Snowden, as well as Alejandro Monteverde’s Little Boy, Kenneth Branagh’s Cinderella, and Tom Harper’s War Book.
In television, the actor most recently took on a role in Peacock’s Mrs. Davis. Additional credits include HBO’s The Nevers, BBC1 miniseries Apple Tree Yard, PBS’s Press, and both the U.S. and UK versions of Mad Dogs, to name just a few.
Chaplin’s extensive theatre credits include an Olivier Award nomination for his performance in The Glass Menagerie and a Tony nomination for The Retreat from Moscow. He continues to be represented by Independent Talent Group in the UK, Principal Entertainment LA, and Kovert Creative.
