Pat McAfee claims that no one told him he would be in the Royal Rumble match.

Pat McAfee made a surprise appearance at WWE Royal Rumble, as he joined the commentary team. He was then announced as an entrant in the Men’s Royal Rumble, and he quickly eliminated himself.

In a WWE Royal Rumble Exclusive, Pat McAfee was asked about his return.

“Coming back, to get a chance to be in front of the WWE Universe is an absolute honor,” Pat McAfee said. “I was told, ‘Hey Pat, you wanna come back and commentate?’ I said, ‘Hell yes.’ The Royal Rumble, what an event. What a spectacular situation, where stories can be written, where dreams can come true. You want to commentate? I said, ‘Hell yeah.’ Work with Michael Cole, the greatest of all time, alongside Corey Graves, with a fresh baby, fresh mindset, fresh haircut? I said I would love to do that.

“Then all of a sudden, 22, I’m in the Royal Rumble? [Laughs] Nobody gave me a heads up about that. I got my cowboy boots on. Michael Cole let me go in there. That was rude of him. I thought we were friends. Then there was a thing in there. Seven-foot-three, okay, you’re just looking up at a statue of a being. Then I see Bron Breakker go [imitates barking], barking at me. I’m not supposed to be in here. Why would I be in here right now? I’m not prepared for this. Also, who would I be to take a main event at WrestleMania spot away from somebody? So I got my ass out of there. Now I went back in because I thought, wait a minute, am I just gonna be a coward? I realized quickly, yeah, I think tonight I am. I went right back to the booth. It was great. It was a great show.”

Pat McAfee On What’s Next

Pat McAfee then stated that it was an awesome night, and he said it was great to be back. When asked about what was next, he stated that balancing his responsibilities has been challenging, and he noted that his future with WWE was up in the air.

“My schedule is awesome, wild, busy,” Pat McAfee said. “Plus, gorgeous little baby girl, beautiful bride. So trying to balance everything has certainly been a thing. But any time I get the opportunity to work alongside the geniuses and greats that are in the WWE, I’m certainly gonna make the most of it and take advantage of the opportunity. Because this is a dream come true. So who knows what’s next? But it’ll be something.”

WrestleMania 40 came up in the conversation, and Pat McAfee stated that he had to have a talk with himself, as he learned a lot on Saturday.

“I don’t know,” he said. “To be honest, I gotta really have a conversation with myself about everything that happened in that ring tonight. I learned a lot about me tonight. Learned a lot about me at this stage of my life tonight. So who knows what’s next? Gotta go to the drawing board. Hopefully, I’ll be welcomed back at some point.”
