This Friday Night following SmackDown, Paul Heyman will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. The Tribal Chief, Roman Reigns, will be the one to induct Heyman. Recently, while speaking to John Clark of NBC Sports, Heyman talked about how he has been able to play a key role in the professional wrestling business for so many years.

“Because every time I get canceled, I reinvent myself and come back and do something different. I got canceled as a manager, I became a color commentator. I became a color commentator. And I got canceled as a color commentator. I became a manager, I got canceled again as a manager. And I came back as the Head of Creative. I got canceled as the Head of Creative in my own company.

“And I come to WWE and I go back to being color commentator. And then I become an Advocate and from The Advocate I become the Wise Man and… It’s just a matter of… Every run has an expiration date stamped on the back of your neck. Which means, you can never see when that time is.”

Paul Heyman always looked to Underpromise and Overdeliver

The Wiseman also mentioned that what helps in the growth of the business is to always underpromise the fans but always look to overdeliver. He also compared it to playing an actor on different mediums.

“But… Um… The society, and Pop Culture, and culture itself is going to move forward. So whatever that dictates is something that you have to play to. And you have to keep within just the core of what makes it work. To me that’s always underpromising and overdelivering. And that’s in a business filled with hype. But still to overdeliver to the audience to always keep them guessing to keep a level of mystique. And then when you burn that out, come back as something new.

“It’s like an actor playing a different role on a different medium. If you wear yourself out on Broadway, then you go into television. When you wear yourself out on television, then you go to movies. When you wear yourself out in movies, the next thing you know, you’re doing Shakespeare in the park. But you keep active and you keep on finding, ‘Okay, here’s a role that’s not filled.’ Or, ‘Here’s a role I can create for myself.’ And then going to pursue it. It’s not what you want, it’s what the market dictates and then going after that,” Paul Heyman said.
