Manchester United legend Paul Scholes praised the Manchester United defence but was disappointed with the lack of attacking threat.

Manchester United looked defensively solid against Unai Emery’s Aston Villa this afternoon but there was a lack of creativity in attack.

Manchester United came closest through a Bruno Fernandes freekick effort that hit the crossbar in the second half.

In isolation, a point at Villa Park is a good result but it does not help the Red Devil’s league position with Ten Hag’s side sitting 14th in the table.

Manchester United face Brentford at Old Trafford after the upcoming international break.

Paul Scholes reacts to Manchester United 0-0 Aston Villa

Paul Scholes has praised the defensive performance of Manchester United against Aston Villa but is dismayed about the lack of threat in attack.

Talking about the Red Devil’s performance via the official Premier League website, Scholes said: “I think that they were a lot better and organised.

“They looked more difficult to play against, more difficult to break through, which usually happens and it’s normally wide open.

“But, I thought Mainoo and Eriksen next to him gave them a really solid platform.

“I also think they were helped by Villa’s game on Wednesday. I think it was a bit of a flat game from Aston Villa, and I  just think United tried to survive.

Reacting to Jonny Evans’ admission that United was hoping for a goal on the break, Scholes added: “Hoping we could get a goal on the counter-attack, which, when you’re Man United you’d think you would have a little bit more than that.

“But, that’s where we’re at, that’s why they’re 14th in the Premier League because they’re not good enough to put the full package together.”
