Paul Scholes believes Amad Diallo deserves a starting berth against Leicester City after his two-goal display against PAOK in the Europa League on Thursday night.

It was United’s first win in Europe this season as Amad opened the scoring by heading in a Bruno Fernandes cross in the second half’s early stages.

The Ivory Coast international sealed United’s first win in the competition when he took back possession and fired into the far corner after 77 minutes of play.

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes praised Amad’s overall contribution. He was by far our most threatening player throughout the game and deserved his two goals.

Scholes thinks Amad is worthy of a starting berth this weekend when Leicester City come to Old Trafford. He was given his seventh start of the season under Ruud van Nistelrooy last night but has played a bit part role in recent weeks.

Before Erik ten Hag’s dismissal, Amad was overlooked for Noussair Mazraoui in the No. 10 role for a previous Europa League match.

“It was a great night for him as someone who is in and out. He needs to cement a place and I think tonight has gone a long way to doing that,” Scholes told TNT Sports, as quoted by the Daily Mail.

“He was excellent, the first 20 minutes he looked the sharpest player on the pitch and went on the prove that in the second half.

“He has been a bit in and out, but there is competition in those places.

“He has come in and made a real stake for that position, he probably deserves to play at the weekend.”

Van Nistelrooy also took a moment to hail Amad after his performance against the Greek champions.

He highlighted Amad’s attitude in training, revealing the 22-year-old had not been impacted by being in and out of the starting line-up. Instead he continued to work hard and take his opportunity when given.

Van Nistelrooy said: “Amad made the difference for us today, obviously because of his goals but he was also sharp and in the first half he was one of the few that had his level. Well done to him.

“He has been incredible [in training]. He was never effected by not playing, he was always training well and staying on the pitch doing extra bits.

“’Ruud let’s do more, let’s do more’, we did a lot of work. That’s an example.”
