Things are getting better for Benjamin Pavard. Not called up to the French team in September and October, the 2018 world champion defender was recalled by Didier Deschamps for the November rally and came on as a substitute during the Blues’ victory against Italy (1-3) in place of Jules Koundé in the 83rd minute of the match at Giuseppe-Meazza. The 28-year-old will return to the sumptuous setting of San Siro this Tuesday evening (9 p.m.) for Inter’s Champions League clash against Leipzig.
For the resumption of Serie A last Friday, Simone Inzaghi left a few starters and Pavard remained on the bench. His competitor for the right axis defender position in the Nerazzurri’s 3-5-2, Yann Bisseck, was lined up from the start and scored his team’s fifth goal against Hellas Verona (0-5). The Northerner is announced as the starter against the RBL alongside Stefan de Vrij (with Alessandro Bastoni left axis). Denzel Dumfries and Federico Dimarco will return to their respective places as pistons.
Pavard holder, not Thuram
While Lautaro Martinez, returning from South America, was left to rest, Marcus Thuram took the opportunity to score a double against the Veronese. Associated with the French striker, Joaquin Correa signed a resounding first start by opening the scoring before giving two assists. This time, Lilian’s son could give way to Iranian striker Mehdi Taremi, who started all four matches in the LDC league phase this season.
Inter has the opportunity to consolidate its place in the top 8 of the general classification of the C1 after its draw against Manchester City (0-0), at the opening of the regular season, then its three victories in a row against Red Star Belgrade (4-0), Young Boys Bern (0-1) and Arsenal (1-0). The Leipzig duo of Benjamin Sesko-Loïs Openda have lost their four matches and are in 32nd position out of 36.
The probable composition: Sommer – Pavard, De Vrij, Bastoni – Dumfries, Barella, Calhanoglu, Zielinski, Dimarco – Lautaro, Taremi.
