Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are scheduled to convene for a crucial meeting in Abuja on Tuesday, October 22.
Naija News understands that the PDP Governors Forum will meet before the upcoming National Executive Committee (NEC) gathering planned for Thursday, where the PDP Reconciliation Committee headed by Olagunsoye Oyinlola is set to present its discoveries and possible suggestions to the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).
The Reconciliation Committee met earlier today in Abuja in the NEC Hall of the PDP National Secretariat to complete its report and prepare it for submission to the Umar Damagum-led NWC.
The NWC is expected to scrutinize the report and then present it to the NEC for approval.
Addressing journalists shortly after today’s meeting with the PDP National Assembly Caucus, Oyinlola said, “As part of our assignment as members of the National Reconciliation Committee, we scheduled to meet members of the National Assembly to share their experiences and understand what is causing the dwindling fortunes of our party politically.
“We’ve had useful discussions, and I believe we have gathered suggestions that will help unite our party and make it formidable. That’s what this evening’s discussions were about.
“One obvious thing is that for any party to enter a political battle and win, it must be united. That’s what we’re aiming for.”
On the upcoming Ondo Governorship election, Oyinlola stated, “The National Reconciliation Committee has toured the South-West, and the Ondo election came up prominently. We are putting our strategies in place.”
When asked who the committee is reconciling, the party chieftain said: “Anyone within the party who has a disagreement with someone else, those are the individuals we’re reconciling.”
Regarding rumours of suspension recommendations within the party, Oyinlola said, “As far as we’re concerned, I would take that as a rumour for now. We’re meeting with the National Working Committee tomorrow, so after that, you can ask me again.”
In a related development, the PDP-GF meeting is expected to deliberate on whether the NEC meeting will be held as scheduled or if a new date will be set. Additionally, possible agenda items for the NEC meeting will be discussed.
