The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has appointed a 26-member disciplinary committee to reestablish the party’s discipline that has been absent for several years.

Chief Tom Ikimi will chair the committee, Naija News understands.

This development was confirmed during a press conference in Abuja on Friday by the National Publicity Secretary of the Party, Debo Ologunagba.

It is important to note that PDP has faced significant turmoil since the 2023 Presidential primary, in which former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, secured victory with 371 votes, surpassing his nearest competitor, former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, who garnered 237 votes out of a total of 767.

Following this, Wike led a coalition of five PDP governors in a public campaign against both Atiku and the party itself.

The disciplinary committee, under the leadership of Ikimi, will have Eyitayo Jegede, SAN, serving as its secretary.

Additional members of the committee include former Kano State Governor Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, Chief Olabode George (Board of Trustees), Rt. Hon. Margaret Icheen (Board of Trustees), Senator Effiong Bob, and former Acting National Chairman of the Party, Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje, among others.

As stated by Ologunagba, the inauguration of the Ikimi-led committee will take place alongside the National Reconciliation Committee, which is chaired by Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, on Wednesday, August 21, 2024.

Ologunagba said, “Following the approval of the National Executive Committee (NEC), the National Working Committee (NWC) has constituted the National Reconciliation Committee and the National Disciplinary Committee of our great Party.

“The Committees will be inaugurated on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 at the National Executive Committee (NEC) Hall, National Secretariat, Abuja at 12 noon prompt.

“The NWC charges all leaders, critical stakeholders and teeming members of the PDP to remain focused and committed to the vision, principles and aspiration of our great Party in the overall interest of the growth, development and stability of the PDP and the nation.”
