With Xavi Hernandez deciding to leave Barcelona at the end of the season, the search for his replacement is underway at the club.

Several names such as Hansi Flick, Sergio Conceicao, Jurgen Klopp, and even Barça Atletic boss Rafa Marquez have been mentioned as potential targets.

Meanwhile, in some circles, there has also been talk of bringing back former managers Pep Guardiola or Luis Enrique as well.

Guardiola, Laporta not thinking of a reunion

However, according to Mundo Deportivo, neither Barcelona president Joan Laporta nor Guardiola himself are contemplating the possibility of a reunion in the summer.

Sources have confirmed to the aforementioned outlet that no deal is viable.

Guardiola’s current contract with Manchester City runs until the summer of 2025 and he is clear that he wants to fulfill that. At the same time, him signing a new deal to further his stay at the Etihad is not ruled out either.

Only recently, Guardiola all but closed the doors to an exit from Manchester City, saying: “Here I have everything a coach dreams of. Absolutely everything. We changed a lot of players in these seven years and I always had the support.

“The board has always supported me, the players, a good atmosphere. I feel good, I know that at some point it will end, but I don’t think it will be right now.”

Meanwhile, earlier today, Laporta, during his interview with RAC1, also commented on Guardiola’s situation, saying: “He has a contract with Manchester City (2025) and he respects contracts. I speak often with him and I know what the club thinks about him.”

All in all, there is little to no chance of Guardiola returning to Barcelona next summer once Xavi steps down.

So, it remains to be seen who replaces the 44-year-old club legend, with Laporta entrusting the responsibility to sporting director Deco.

“It is in Deco’s hands the new coach. We are working on different options. I am focused on the end of the season. I have to keep a cool head. I have full confidence in Xavi until the end of the season,” Laporta said.
