Pep Guardiola could not hide his massive grin when asked about Manchester City’s transfer talks with Kylian Mbappe’s agents on Monday.
The Premier League champions held discussions with the French superstar’s representatives last week over a potential move.
Mbappe has also been linked to fellow English clubs Arsenal and Liverpool, although both sides are reluctant to break their wage structure to sign him.
It is widely assumed that Mbappe will end up at Real Madrid and the latest reports indicate that the Paris-Saint Germain striker has already agreed a deal.
But that did not stop journalists from asking Guardiola about City’s talks for Mbappe in Monday’s press conference amid hope they’re still in the race.
‘There are reports that the City Group met up with Mbappe’s people… what do you make of him as a player?’ One reporter asked the City manager.
‘I think he’s quite good!’ Guardiola said of Mbappe, who has produced 244 goals and 105 assists across 291 games for PSG.
‘I think he has a future!’ Guardiola added before revealing a huge grin and letting out a laugh. ‘He’s really, really good.’
Mikel Arteta also hopes Arsenal are still in the race to sign Mbappe but conceded that Real Madrid is the likely destination for the PSG superstar.
Mbappe is thought to have been encouraged by Real Madrid’s performances this season and the prospect of joining a new Galacticos era alongside the likes of Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Junior.
