Pep Guardiola has been talking ahead of the Premier League match against Newcastle United.
The Manchester City boss meeting the media on Friday.
Amongst the topics covered, was that regarding a number of Manchester City players and their injury situations.
Nathan Ake was carried off on a stretcher whilst on international duty earlier this month and misses the visit to Tyneside, with what appears to be a hamstring problem. Likewise, Oscar Bobb is still recovering from a broken leg suffered in pre-season, so definitely won’t be scoring the winner against Newcastle United this time, after his injury time strike in January.
Pep Guardiola though with bigger and more shocking news on Rodri, who won’t play again this season, the Manchester City boss on Friday saying:
“Good surgery this morning, ACL and also some meniscus.
“So next season he will be here but this season is over.
“At this level it happens, we’re here to support his recovery step by step and move forward.”
Since joining Man City from Atletico Madrid in 2019, they have lost just 11 percent of the matches Rodri has featured in, compared to 24% without the Spaniard.
Kevin De Bruyne has missed the last two games after picking up an injury in a Champions League match last week, the news not as bad as with Rodri, however, the Belgium international definitely misses the Newcastle match, Pep Guardiola when asked if he would be in Saturday’s matchday squad:
“No. I don’t know when he will be available again, maybe before the [October] international break, or after the international break, we will see.”
