Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has left the future of Barcelona target Joao Cancelo uncertain.

It must be noted that although Cancelo is under contract with City until June 2029, his recent loan spell at Barcelona has sparked speculation about his potential return to the Catalan club.

Guardiola addressed this during a press conference, offering insight into Cancelo’s situation. When asked about the possibility of Cancelo rejoining the City squad, Guardiola was quoted by Mundo Deportivo as saying,

“Will Joao Cancelo return to the squad? It could happen, yes.

“He is training with us. We’ll see. Maybe he’ll stay, maybe he’ll go on loan, maybe… I don’t know yet,” he explained.

Despite their previous clashes, Guardiola was quick to praise the Portuguese full-back’s current attitude and commitment.

“He is behaving very well in training,” Guardiola noted, highlighting the player’s professionalism.

It must be noted that Barcelona remain keen on securing Cancelo’s services for another season. The Blaugrana are actively negotiating with Manchester City, hoping to arrange a loan deal that fits within their financial constraints.

Barcelona see Cancelo as a crucial part of their plans and are determined to bring him back to the Camp Nou. Initially, City were firm in their demand for a permanent transfer for Cancelo.

However, as the transfer deadline approaches, they seem more open to the idea of a loan. This shift in City’s stance could be a significant development in the ongoing negotiations and would also work in Barcelona’s favour.

Cancelo’s agent, Jorge Mendes, is currently in England, working to facilitate the player’s move back to Barcelona. Mendes has been instrumental in these discussions, ensuring that Cancelo’s desire to continue at Barça is clearly communicated.

The Portuguese full-back has made no secret of his wish to stay with the Catalan giants, publicly expressing his commitment to the club.
