Ruben Amorim saw the bitter side to Pep Guardiola after beating Man City 4-1 in the Champions League.

Man City suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League, and Guardiola couldn’t help himself when he aimed a dig at Ruben Amorim’s new club Manchester United.

Following the game, Guardiola discussed how Ruben Amorim will fare in English football with United and stated that City won’t face him again in the Champions League now he’s head coach elsewhere.

It’s a dig at the fact United aren’t competing in the Champions League. Sadly, we’ve fallen so far that we’re struggling to win matches in the Europa League.

Guardiola got ratty after watching his side lose 4-1 against Ruben Amorim and reporters couldn’t wait to ask him about losing to a future rival.

He told reporters (as quoted by BBC Sport reporter Simon Stone): “We will face them two times in the Premier League and maybe the FA Cup. In the Champions League it is not possible.”

Stone also quoted Amorim after the match when he said: “I will keep these memories forever.”

United-linked Viktor Gyokeres scored a hat-trick and was unlucky not to have score goals to his name on the night, like he managed over the weekend in Sporting’s previous league match.

The resounding win has helped Sporting jump to the second spot as they have 10 points from four matches. The Portuguese outfit sit two points adrift of leaders Liverpool.

Monaco occupy the third spot on goal difference in the Champions League, while Borussia Dortmund and Aston Villa are fourth and fifth respectively.

City have slipped to sixth, with seven points.

United are back in Europa League action on Thursday night when they take on PAOK at Old Trafford.

Ruud van Nistelrooy will be in the dugout for a third time, after beating Leicester City 5-2 in the League Cup and drawing 1-1 with Chelsea in the Premier League.

United are looking for their first win in Europe after drawing their first three matches in the competition.
