This was the tense subject for Manchester City at the start of the season. Architect of the Mancunian project since his arrival in the summer of 2016, Pep Guardiola had not extended a lease which ends next June. Wanting to prepare for the future, the English club wanted a quick response in order to be able to best develop its sporting planning.

Having to replace Txiki Begiristain this summer as sporting director of the Sky Blues, the Portuguese Hugo Viana, hoped to know as quickly as possible the wishes of Pep Guardiola like the entire staff of the Citizens. And if there was any doubt given the Catalan’s long nine-year stint at the helm of Manchester City, the answer will ultimately be positive.

Pep Guardiola will stay at least one more year

According to The AthleticPep Guardiola has just agreed to an extension with the club where he has won 18 trophies including 6 Premier Leagues and the 2023 Champions League. Thus, he will extend his current lease for an additional season, until June 2026 and a one-year option will be included. Enough to hope to see him spend at least 10 to 11 years at the head of the English club.

The challenges will be numerous for Pep Guardiola whose team seems to be reaching the end of its run with certain aging executives or the end of their contracts soon like Ilkay Gündogan, Kevin De Bruyne, Kyle Walker, John Stones, Ederson Moraes and Bernardo Silva . Rejuvenating the team and continuing to pass on the culture of winning is one of Pep Guardiola’s challenges. This season, Manchester City are second in the Premier League, 5 points behind leader Liverpool and find themselves tenth in the Champions League.
