A legend of world and Portuguese football is leaving. Without a club since the end of his contract this summer with FC Porto, Portuguese defender Pepe ended his career this Thursday at the age of 41.

The former Real Madrid and Besiktas player who was a quarter-finalist at Euro 2024 with Portugal (defeated by the French team in the penalty shootout) did not want to start a new season and preferred to end his career.

The now former number 3 of the Portuguese national team has one of the most beautiful records in Portuguese football. The rugged defender has won 3 Champions Leagues in 2014, 2016 and 2017, but also 3 times the Liga and 4 times the Portuguese championship.

With his country, he has 141 caps for 8 goals and has won Euro 2016 and the Nations League in 2019. Performing well during the European Nations Championship, Pepe will leave a big void in the central hinge of the Selection…
