Percy Jackson & The Olympians looks to be a big win for Disney+.
While the series narrowly missed Nielsen’s overall streaming Top 10 for the week of December 25 to 31, it did move up to No. 3 on the streaming originals chart with 700M minutes viewed during the week the third episode was released. That’s up 22% from the week prior.
According to Nielsen, about 25% of Percy Jackson‘s audience during this interval was under 17. As Deadline previously reported, the premiere episodes of Percy Jackson have surpassed 26M views on Disney+ since they were released, with the first five episodes all tallying more than 10M views in their first week.
Disney+ is likely expecting some big numbers for the finale on Tuesday. Nielsen data for this current week won’t be available for about a month, but it seems like the series has a good chance of making it on the overall Top 10 in the meantime. If it does, it will join a very small class of Disney+ originals to have done so.
At No. 1 this week was Young Sheldon with 1.3B minutes viewed. Nielsen reports the series was the top streaming title of December with a grand total of 6.7B viewing minutes. The company says that Young Sheldon is also managing to attract a younger audience, with 14% coming from viewers in the 12-17 age group.
Speaking of kids programming, Bluey dominated the list once again, which should not be surprising given this week between Christmas and New Year’s Day is a time when most children are off from school, which translates to a rise in viewership for kids titles. Bluey was up 20% week-over-week to 1.1B viewing minutes, landing at No. 2 overall.
Rebel Moon saw a 14% increase in viewership, raking in 974M viewing minutes, taking fourth place on the overall list.
Take most of this with a grain of salt, though, since Nielsen still isn’t including any new data from Amazon during this interval. Due to a glitch with Prime Video‘s audio asset capture, reporting for any title added to the service between December 20 and January 16 is delayed until at least February.
That means there’s a good chance that Reacher should actually be taking the throne again this week, after staying on top during the previous measurement period, despite the same delay. There is now viewing for two new episodes that have not been counted and, somehow, the series still put up another 943M viewing minutes during this interval.
