Nigeria’s AFCON 2023 silver medal-winning coach Jose Peseiro has been left out of the Confederation of African Football’s Coach of the Year shortlist for 2024.
A post on Thursday by CAF via X revealed that the ten-man shortlist features several prominent names from across the continent, including Angola’s Pedro Goncalves and Burkina Faso’s Brahima Traore.
The list also includes Ivory Coast’s Emerse Fae, who made a significant impact in African football this year.
DR Congo’s Sebastien Desabre and Egyptian representatives Jose Gomes and Marcel Koller have also made the cut.
The nomination list is further strengthened by the inclusion of Mozambique’s Chiquinho Conde, South Africa’s Hugo Broos, Equatorial Guinea’s Florent Ibenge, and Sudan’s Kwesi Appiah.
The shortlist reflects the diverse tactical approaches and achievements across African football, with nominees representing both club and national team success stories.
The selection also spans multiple regions of the continent, from Southern Africa to North Africa, highlighting the broad spectrum of coaching excellence in African football.
However, the absence of Peseiro, despite guiding Nigeria to an AFCON final appearance, stands out as one of the talking points from the announcement.
