Over 600 applications have flooded in for the highly sought-after coaching positions for both the Super Eagles and Golden Eaglets, as recently advertised by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

The NFF made public the vacancies almost two weeks ago, announcing the departure of Portuguese coach Jose Peseiro from the helm of the Super Eagles following the conclusion of his contract. Peseiro led the Nigerian national men’s team to a commendable second place finish at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Simultaneously, the coaching position for the national Under-17 team (Golden Eaglets) was also declared vacant, previously occupied by former Nigeria International defender, Nduka Ugbade.

High-profile former Nigerian internationals, including Daniel Amokachi, Samson Siasia, Emmanuel Amuneke, Sunday Oliseh, and Finidi George, who assisted Peseiro, were among those rumored to have submitted their applications before the application deadline on Tuesday.

A reliable but unnamed source disclosed to NationSport that the NFF has received an overwhelming response to the job postings, with over 600 applications received for both positions. The source further revealed that the federation’s technical committee is preparing to meticulously screen the applications.

“In total, there are so many interested coaches vying for both the Super Eagles and Golden Eaglets positions, with over 600 applications received for both jobs,” the source stated confidentially.

The Super Eagles managerial position, often considered one of the most coveted coaching roles globally, has attracted significant attention. Many stakeholders are advocating for the appointment of a Nigerian coach to succeed Peseiro.
