Peter Gallagher opened up about his relationship with Mischa Barton and watching her navigate fame when they were on The O.C. together. During a recent interview, the 69-year-old actor, who played Sandy Cohen on the hit TV series in the ’00s, said that he felt “very protective” of the 38-year-old actress who was thrust into the spotlight with her portrayal of Marissa Cooper. Keep reading to find out more… “I’ve always felt very protective of her,” Peter told The Independent. “First fame is toxic. First fame can kill you. She was 16 years old when she started working with us, so just the fact that she’s still alive, I’m just so grateful.” He noted that his experience with the early days of fame was so much different. If you were unaware, he played Danny Zuko in a production of Grease on Broadway in the late ’70s. “It was a great time to be young and doing Grease because the critics didn’t come,” he said. “I did 500 performances of that show. It wasn’t going to make you famous. It wasn’t going to ruin you. Nobody was reviewing it, but it was a great training ground.” Earlier this year, Mischa revealed that she dated one of her The O.C. costars.
