President of the FFF, Philippe Diallo confirmed on Sunday evening that the referees’ sound system would be put in place next season in Ligue 1. A statement which earned him a backlash.
The day after the forced resignation of Noël Le Graët from the presidency of the French Football Federation, Philippe Diallo took up the torch. Deemed consensual, the man has since settled into his new functions and will stand for election to the body in a few weeks to try to extend his mandate. In the meantime, he was the guest of bein Sports Sunday evening and he took the opportunity to make an announcement: the referees’ sound system will be effective from next season in Ligue 1. Good news for some, this declaration annoyed others.
Among the observers unhappy with the announcement made by Philippe Diallo, the journalist Damien Degorre got a little carried away Monday evening on the set of the channel The Team, believing that the leader was working mainly on his re-election rather than really acting on the level of arbitration in France. While Philippe Diallo spoke of “ very positive developments “, the journalist questioned: ” Very positive developments for whom? For improving the skills of referees? Not sure. It’s demagogic for the person who announces it, who is in the middle of an election period and who, in fact, brings what people want and brings it directly to their plate. »
“It’s still just as messy, if not more so”
And Damien Degorre climbs into the towers: “ The argument I hear (…) is that it will allow us to understand better. We do not care. First, that it allows referees to referee better. Let us create an environment that allows them to referee better. Then the referees who are not good enough, well they are demoted, they don’t play the best matches, they play in L2 or even in National. » Also unconvinced by the VAR, the journalist continued to get annoyed. “ What do we do ? We wanted the video at all costs. It was going to change everything, revolutionize everything, it’s still just as messy if not more so. What will the sound system bring? »
Skeptics will therefore have the first elements of an answer from next season. And even a little before since the system will be used in a few days, during the Division 1 Arkema playoffs. He will also be effective in the Coupe de France final which will pit Olympique Lyonnais against Paris Saint-Germain on May 25.
