After Tottenham’s authoritarian success at the start of the afternoon over West Ham (4-1), this 8th day of the Premier League continued with a multiplex of five matches, including Brentford’s trip to a still-ill Manchester United. The Red Devils’ problems were quickly confirmed as when they returned to the locker room at the break, and after a dominated but harmless first period, they relaxed on a corner and conceded Pinnock’s opening score (0 -1, 45th+5). Fortunately for them, the Mancuniens launched this second half with the equalizer from Garnacho (1-1, 47th). In the process, the Argentinian came close to the double and it was finally Hojlund who offered the winning goal to his team (2-1, 62nd). Once again, MU did not shine, but this first success in the league since September 14 allows them to move up to 10th place and offer a little breathing room to Erik ten Hag.

In the other matches, Aston Villa continued its good start to the championship, confirming its past season. Unaï Emery’s troops won on the Fulham pitch (3-1), despite the Cottagers opening the score and a penalty saved by Emiliano Martínez. They climb to 4th place in the ranking, only one length behind the leader. Brighton also carried out an excellent operation by taking the three points of victory at Newcastle (1-0). Former Mancunian Danny Welbeck scored the only goal of the match. Further down the standings, Everton thanks Iliman Ndiaye, scorer at Ipswich for a 2-0 success on the lawn of a remaining competitor. The Toffees are 15th with a comfortable mattress of five units in the red zone. Finally, Leicester achieved a great feat by snatching victory from Southampton (3-2), after being trailing by two goals.

The results of the 4 p.m. matches:

Fulham 1 – 3 Aston Villa : Jiménez (5th) / Rogers (9th), Watkins (59th) and Diop (csc 69th)

Ipswich 0 – 2 Everton : Ndiaye (17th), Keane (40th)

Manchester United 2 – 1 Brentford: Garnacho (47th) and Hojlund (62nd) / Pinnock (45th + 5)

Newcastle 0 – 1 Brighton : Welbeck (35th)

Southampton 2 – 3 Leicester : Archer (8th) and Aribo (28th) / Buonanotte (64th), Vardy (74th, sp) and Ayew (90th+8)
