For a late match on the 34th day of the Premier League, Manchester United (8th) and Newcastle (7th) crossed swords this Wednesday evening. A major shock in view of the race for Europe. Indeed, the seventh in the Premier League will qualify for the Europa Conference League if Manchester City wins the FA Cup against… Manchester United. At Old Trafford, Newcastle took the game into their own hands and Anthony Gordon forced Sofyan Amrabat to intervene (4th). The Red Devils reacted with two good situations from Amad Diallo (15th and 20th) then Alejandro Garnacho would in turn fall on Martin Dubravka (27th). Finally, Mancunian efforts were rewarded thanks to the youth of MU. Found by Amad Diallo, Kobbie Mainoo went to crucify Martin Dubravka (1-0, 32nd). Newcastle reacted and it took a superb intervention from Casemiro in front of Dan Burn’s header to avoid the equalizer (36th). Newcastle pushed before the break and Bruno Guimaraes missed the target with a header (44th).

Returning from the locker room, Newcastle would finally manage to come back to the score. Well served by Jacob Murphy’s center, Anthony Gardon managed to reset the counters to zero (1-1, 49th). Then on a counter initiated by Anthony Gardon, Alexander Isak was narrowly caught by the excellent tackle of Sofyan Amrabat who deflected his shot above the frame (52nd). Manchester United seemed to be sinking, but their nugget Amad Diallo would give the Red Devils the advantage against the run of play (2-1, 57th). The Magpies pushed to equalize and Sean Longstaff fell on André Onana (67th). Despite the great efforts of Eddie Howe’s players to come back, Rasmus Hojlund finally looked for a new goal (3-1, 84th). Lewis Hall reduced the gap in the final minutes without consequence (3-2, 90th +2). With this 3-2 Mancunian victory, the Red Devils are back on par with Newcastle with 57 points, but maintain a smaller difference (+21 for the Magpies and -3 for the Red Devils).
