It is certainly not time for Manchester United’s big comeback, but this victory will do some good. Two weeks after the heavy defeat at Old Trafford against Liverpool (3-0), the Red Devils went to win at Southampton 3-0 to open this 4th day of the Premier League. A success that allows them to move up the rankings with provisional 8th place and to consider the rest more serenely. Erik ten Hag’s men still suffered for a large part of the first half and can thank André Onana.

The Cameroonian goalkeeper saved a penalty from Archer (33rd), catching Diogo Dalot’s suicidal tackle on Dibling at the edge of the area. Up until then, the Saints had done everything right, largely dominating a completely overwhelmed opponent, but this turning point would condemn them for the rest. In the process, De Ligt punished the poor alignment of the Southampton defense with a header (0-1, 36th), followed closely by Rashford who deceived Ramsdale with a placed shot (0-2, 41st). Stephens’ expulsion (79th) on Granacho put an end to the suspense. The Argentinian even finished the job in added time (0-3, 90th+6), inflicting a 4th defeat in a row on the home side in this championship.
