Plateau to conduct first mock LG poll Sept 28

The Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission has announced plans to hold a mock election on Saturday, September 28, as part of preparations for the Local Government elections scheduled for October 9, 2024.

The Head of Media, PLASIEC, Mrs. Koro Yakubu, made this known in a statement issued to journalists in Jos on Thursday.

She explained that the exercise is aimed at test-running the deployment of the Voter Verification Software for the election using live voters.

According to her, the mock election will be conducted in six selected local governments across the state’s senatorial districts and will take place between 9 am and 12 noon.

The statement read in part: “In a bid to enhance the credibility and transparency of the electoral process, the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission will be conducting its first-ever mock election to test-run facilities for the October 9 local government elections in the state.

“The commission will test-run the deployment of the Voter Verification Software (VVS) for the election using live voters in six selected local governments across the senatorial districts of the state.

“The exercise, scheduled for Saturday, 28th September 2024, between the hours of 9 am and 12 noon, will take place in six polling units within six wards of the selected local government areas.”

The electoral body further stated that the local government areas where the mock election will be held include Wase, Shendam, Pankshin, Mangu, Riyom, and Jos North.
