Kylian Mbappe to Liverpool always seemed something of a pipe dream when the financials were brought into play.

With Jurgen Klopp now set to be out of the picture come the summer, matters will hardly be helped.

Christian Falk reports that the Frenchman had ‘seriously considered’ a switch to Anfield prior to the 56-year-old’s announcement.

“Bitter for Liverpool: Kylian Mbappé is said to have seriously considered a move to Liverpool,” the BILD reporter wrote in his exclusive column with CaughtOffside.

“I heard that working with Jürgen Klopp is said to have appealed to the star from France. His thought: Klopp would have made him an even better player.

“With Klopp’s departure, this argument no longer exists. Liverpool should now definitely be out of the race.”

The World Cup winner is currently leading the Ligue top scorer chart with 20 goals registered this term.

An unlikely move for Liverpool

The former Monaco marksman’s considerable wage demands (and, previously, insurmountable asking price) have generally precluded Liverpool from throwing their hat into the ring.

Whilst thoughts of adding the insatiable goal machine to the ranks at Anfield are tantalising, it was always going to be a move that would be difficult to marry with FSG’s sustainable mantra.

That’s not necessarily an issue, of course, with the Reds already possessing serious goal-getters in their ranks.

A move to another behemoth, likely Real Madrid, instead, seems the more plausible scenario.

Only time will tell where Mbappe’s talents (and astronomical demands) will take him.
