Operatives of the Adamawa State Police Command have arrested a man for allegedly impersonating a police officer and extorting money from the public.
The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Shafiu Abdulkadir, a resident of Anguwan Yelwa in Yola North Local Government Area, was apprehended on Thursday.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by the command’s spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, on Friday.
Nguroje said it was discovered that Abdulkadir had been extorting money from tricycle operators in areas around the Aliyu Mustapha Flyover and Jimeta Modern Market in Yola North LG.
“The arrest was a follow-up to the information regarding the activities of some vigilante men going around threatening and extorting Keke NAPEP riders.
“Upon his arrest, the suspect was found wearing police camouflage trousers and a black shirt with the inscription ‘Special Force’ and boots,” Nguroje said.
The police spokesman further noted that the suspect will be charged in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
