The Katsina State Police Command says its operatives rescued six victims in two separate kidnap incidents along the Jibia-Kauran Namoda and the Funua-Gusau roads in the state.
This was announced in a statement on Saturday by the command’s spokesperson, Abubakar Aliyu.
Aliyu noted that the victims were rescued in a collaboration between the police operatives and the military.
The statement read, “Upon receipt of the report, police operatives, in collaboration with the military, immediately moved to the scene and engaged the suspects in a gun duel.
“Four kidnapped victims were successfully rescued and rushed to the hospital for medical attention. Unfortunately, one victim succumbed to gunshot injuries sustained during the attack.
“Similarly, at about 0700hrs, Faskari Divisional Police Headquarters received a distress call regarding an attempted kidnapping on the Funua-Gusau Road at Unguwar Boka village, Faskari LGA, Katsina State.”
According to the statement, the operatives attached to the Faskari LG engaged the kidnappers in a gun duel, in which “regrettably, the assailants fatally shot one of the victims during the attack. However, two kidnapped victims were successfully rescued unhurt. Efforts are being intensified to ensure the arrest of the perpetrators as the investigation proceeds.”
In early September, the Imo State Police Command arrested five kidnap suspects terrorising the Obinze, Avu, and Ihiagwa areas of the state.
The Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, in a statement, identified the suspects as Umaru Usman, Tukur Yau, Musbau Sabo, Abdul Ibrahim and Jubrin.
