Police open probe as five beat Gombe man to death

The Gombe State Police Command has arrested five suspects in connection with the death of a 22-year-old herder, Lamido Dotti.

The suspects, Jauro Babawuro (17), Yayaji Bello (16), Baffaji Adamu (16) Babangida Dotti (18), and Yaya Bapati (17) all from Jauro Ali village, were arrested for allegedly beating the victim with sticks which resulted in his death.

According to the police, the victim’s father, Dotti Manu, of Wuro Wandara village via Ribadu district of Gombe, reported that his son was attacked by the suspects during an altercation at a wedding ceremony.

In a statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Buhari Abdullahi, “The victim’s father reported that on December 21, 2024, at about 2200hrs, during a wedding ceremony, altercations ensued between his son and the suspects, resulting in the suspects using sticks to beat up the victim, who sustained internal injuries.

“The victim was admitted at Kowa Clinic Tongo, where he received treatment but later died. The corpse has been deposited at General Hospital Bajoga for autopsy.

 “The case is currently under investigation, and the suspects will be charged to court as soon as the investigation is concluded.”
