The Taraba State Police Command, in collaboration with the military and local hunters, said it has successfully rescued an Israeli national from kidnappers.
A statement issued to journalists in Jalingo on Friday by the Command Public Relations Officer, James Leshen, detailed how the rescue operation unfolded.
Leshen said the Israeli national, identified as Mr Gil Itamar, was said to have been abducted by armed criminals in the Atim Community along the Takum/Chanchangi road.
According to police reports, the incident occurred around 9:15 AM when Itamar, a staff member of SCC Company, was kidnapped while being escorted by military personnel.
His abduction was also confirmed to have been promptly reported to law enforcement by Alhaji Saidu, a fellow staff member of SCC, who raised the alarm.
“Upon receiving the distress call, the Divisional Police Officer of Takum swiftly mobilized a team consisting of police officers, personnel from the 67 PMF, the military, and local hunters.
“A coordinated search-and-rescue mission was launched, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire with the abductors.
“Overpowered by the security forces, the kidnappers were forced to retreat, abandoning their hostage.
“Itamar was subsequently rescued at Kofai Ahmadu and is currently undergoing medical evaluation at SCC Company’s medical facility in Takum,” the police said.
Security forces, as emphasised by the command, have intensified efforts to track down the fleeing criminals, vowing to bring them to justice.
While commending the swift and effective response of the joint force, the Commissioner of Police, Bretet Simon, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to maintaining law and order in the state.
