Police seek Kogi monarch’s support in curbing crime

Kogi Commissioner of Police, Miller Dantawaye

The police in Kogi have solicited support from the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, Alhaji Tijani Ahmed-Anaje, to combat crimes and other criminal offences in the state.

Mr Miller Dantawaye, the Commissioner of Police in the state, made the call when he visited the traditional ruler.

Dantawaye was accompanied on the visit by the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 8, AIG Abubakar Zubairu, paid a courtesy visit to the Ohinoyi.

The commissioner told the traditional ruler that the visit was part of ongoing efforts by the Kogi Police Command to foster a stronger relationship between the Nigeria Police Force and Traditional Institutions.

The visit, he said, was to enhance security, promote peace, and prevent potential threats within the state.

“The visit also gives me the opportunity to officially introduce myself and the AIG while seeking his royal blessings for a successful tenure in the State, ” he stated.

The CP commended the Ohinoyi for his proactive leadership in addressing security challenges within Egbira Kingdom particularly his swift intervention in preventing a planned protest by some Ebira youths.

He noted that such timely actions by the traditional ruler played a crucial role in ensuring peace and order, adding that security is a collective responsibility that requires collaboration between the Police and the community.

Dantawaye described the Ohinoyi as a leader of great integrity, humility, and wisdom and, acknowledged his efforts in fostering peace, unity, and youth development in the region.

The CP told the traditional ruler that the AIG was his mentor, whose guidance has been instrumental in shaping his approach to policing the state.

He highlighted the AIG’s extensive experience and unwavering commitment to upholding law and order, expressing confidence that under their leadership, the safety and security of Kogi State will be further enhanced.

The CP reassured the Ohinoyi of the Command’s unwavering commitment to maintaining peace and stability, stating that the command remains proactive in tackling crime, preventing unrest, and strengthening Community Policing efforts.

He urged other traditional leaders to continue working closely with security agencies by providing intelligence and sensitizing their subjects on the importance of law and order.

The CP assured that the command would continue to work closely with local leaders, stakeholders, and community members to ensure that peace, stability, and development are sustained across the state.

Earlier,  the Ohinoyi expressed his gratitude for the visit.

Muhammed-Anaje commended the commitment of the police to ensuring the security and safety of lives and property in Kogi.

He acknowledged the challenges of policing in a dynamic society and urged officers to remain professional, just, and fair in their dealings with citizens.
