Police set to arraign 1,274 suspected criminals in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has arrested no fewer than 1,274 suspected criminals in various parts of the state between January and September 2024.

Similarly, the command has also  recovered 16 stolen vehicles within the same period under review.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer,  Abdullahi Haruna, made the disclosure while speaking to newsmen on Thursday.

He said that criminal activities had continued to come down in Kano due to sustained efforts of the police and the synergy among sister-security agencies.

He listed the suspects arrested to include: 81 suspected armed robbers, 16 suspected kidnappers, 56 suspected thieves, 22 suspected drug dealers, and 10 suspected fraudsters.

Others were: 14 motorcycle thieves, 153 suspected thugs, 26 mobile phone snatchers, 11 motor vehicle thieves, three human trafficking suspects, and 882 suspects arrested during 1st to10th August nationwide protests.

He disclosed that the Command  had rescued five kidnapping victims and 15 human trafficking victims.

According to him, the Command had also recovered two AK-47 rifles, one berretta pistol, two dane guns, two toy guns and two locally-made guns, 47 live ammunitions, 16 motor vehicles, 17 solar batteries, 71 sharp knives and 23 cutlasses.

Other items recovered were 298 pieces of Exol tablets, 20 sachets of tramadol tablets, 58 sachets of diazepam tablets, and six pieces of D5 hard drugs.

Other items included: 132 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, 30 cows, 15 sheep, and four donkeys, plus 45 ATM cards.

The Command spokesman also said the Police recovered N241,000.00 suspected to be counterfeit currency and 226 mobile phones.
