Popular Lagos socialite and businesswoman, Alhaja Alimotu Sadia Oloto, popularly known as Iya Oyo, the wife of late Oba Fatai Buhari Oloto has passed away.
Her death happened barely two years after the demise of her husband in July 2021 at the age of 80, exactly 10 months after he was crowned king of Iguruland, Aguda Surulere, Lagos. Alhaja Oloto passed on at the age of 70, throwing the Lagos social circuit into deep mourning.
Her remains were immediately committed to mother earth according to Islamic rites at the Ikoyi Vaults, Lagos. Because of her standing in the society, the burial was coordinated by leading Islamic clerics in Lagos, led by the Chief Imam of Lagos Central Mosque. Before her burial, a prayer service attended by family members, friends and sympathizers, as well as notable dignitaries, was conducted at the Lagos Central Mosque, on Lagos Island. Details of her death have remained shrouded in secret.
A few years back, the late Iya Oyo reportedly suffered a life-threatening illness, but she braved it and bounced back, full of life.
She made several appearances at a number of social functions thereafter. A huge fabric merchant, she recently expanded her tentacles with an elaborate opening of a new branch of her fabric business in Adeniran Ogunsanya, Surulere, Lagos.
A few weeks later, she celebrated her 70th birthday. The late Alhaja Oloto during her lifetime, was a prominent society matriarch in Lagos. She was a mother figure to many Lagos society ladies and an accomplished businesswoman who touched the lives of many positively. She is survived by a son who is based in the United Kingdom.
