Manchester United are reportedly among the clubs closely monitoring Sporting CP’s young talent Geovany Quenda.

The Portuguese 17-year-old has only emerged in the first-team under Ruben Amorim, who will begin work as Manchester United head coach on Monday, leaving behind a Sporting side that remains unbeaten this season.

Sporting are renowned for developing some of the best players in Portugal like Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani, but that trend looks set to continue with their latest standout.

Quenda becomes the third Sporting CP player to emerge as a United target after Viktor Gyokeres and Morten Hjulmand.

Under the guidance of Amorim, Quenda has earned a promotion to the first team, and looks set to become Sporting’s latest breakout star.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Manchester United are the current favourites to sign Quenda – presumably for no other reason than Amorim’s recent appointment.

They suggest Juventus are also keen on the youngster.

Any Sporting CP player will find it next to impossible to turn down a switch to United, if the Premier League club go knocking on their door next summer.

Most fans want to see Gyokeres in a red shirt as the striker tops the goalscoring charts in Europe so far this season. He stunned Man City midweek with a hat-trick in Amorim’s final home game as manager.

The only guarantee is that United will be linked with several Sporting players over the coming months.

It is understood that Juventus remain optimistic about their chances of signing Quenda because of their youth recruitment strategy. However, United are also renowned for developing the best young players.

Just look at the opportunities given to Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo and how both players took them with open arms.

Only time will tell if United move for Geovany Quenda

Quenda unlikely to leave anytime soon

One contracting report claims the youngster is not set to leave Lisbon anytime soon.

According to GiveMeSport, Sporting won’t be losing Quenda in the near future.

This will come as a relief to Sporting fans who are already devasted after losing Amorim to United. The last thing they need now is Gyokeres getting on a flight to Manchester.
