Powerhouse Hobbs opens up about how he felt while he was out injured.
Hobbs suffered a ruptured patella tendon during his match against Jon Moxley on the April 24 episode of AEW Dynamite. He was then sidelined until he returned on the November 6 episode of AEW Dynamite.
Speaking with Renee Paquette on AEW Close Up, Powerhouse Hobbs looked back on his injury.
“When the injury happened, it was a pop. I was shot over ten years ago, and it felt just like that,” Hobbs said. “I knew I didn’t get shot, but I couldn’t extend my leg. The thing with me, it’s like okay, I’m in the main event, national TV, IWGP Heavyweight Championship against Jon Moxley.
“I’m like, man, I survived a lot of sh*t, and I’m not gonna die from this injury, so I tried my best to continue. When I look back at it, for me personally, I did the right thing. Maybe from a medical standpoint, I should have said no, but my grandma and grandpa didn’t raise any punks. People paid to see me in action, and I felt like I disappointed a lot of people.
Powerhouse Hobbs Opens Up About Depression
Hobbs was also asked about the emotional side of being sidelined. He discussed dealing with depression, and he said that he was angered by the situation.
“I was on a roll,” Hobbs said. “Once the injury happened, and I found out I’m gonna need surgery, that depression sunk in. I’ve been depressed before. When my brother got murdered, he pushed me out the way. It’s just all these feelings start coming back, all these what ifs and what am I gonna do now? I didn’t know what I was gonna do. Obviously, in our sport, people get injured. Things happen. For me, I’m greedy. I didn’t want to give up anything.
“If I could have taped my knee up and just went, I would have done that, but it’s one of those things where everyone’s telling me, ‘Things happen for a reason.‘ I didn’t want to hear anything. I was an asshole for a while, I didn’t give a sh*t about anybody, didn’t want to hear what they had to say because I knew where this could have took my career. It’s one of those things like watching my brother get murdered, it brought back all the feelings of what if? What’s gonna happen now? It brings a lot of anger in my heart.”
Hobbs also noted that he was frustrated by seeing everyone wrestle while he was out because he wanted to be out there.
