Details On The Tragic Plane Crash In The Philippines
CBS News reports that a U.S. military service member and three defense contractors passed away on Thursday, Feb. 6, when their plane went down in a rice field in Manguindanao del Sur province in the southern Philippines. The outlet notes they were only the passengers aboard the plane. The aircraft, contracted by the U.S. military, was reportedly conducting “intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance support” at the time of the crash.
Windy Beaty, a provincial disaster mitigation officer, told the Associated Press that residents reported seeing smoke pouring from the plane and hearing an explosion before the aircraft crashed less than half a mile from a group of farmhouses.

Per AP, authorities recovered the bodies of the four victims from the wreckage in Ampatuan town, according to Ameer Jehad Tim Ambolodto, a safety officer in Maguindanao del Sur. Meanwhile, Indo-Pacific Command stated they are withholding the names of the crew until families are notified.
The New York Post states that the military hasn’t disclosed the type of aircraft involved in the crash, stating that the wreck remains under investigation. While no people near the crash site suffered injuries, a water buffalo reportedly died in the incident.
