Premier League: Liverpool lose their teeth over Nottingham Forest

This twenty-first day of the Premier League offered us a shock at the top. Liverpool, solitary leader of the English championship with six points in advance and a game less than their runner-up Arsenal, traveled to Nottingham Forest, surprising third in the standings at the start of the game. The team coached by Nuno Espirito Santo came on a series of six victories in all competitions, and surprised everyone in England this season. For this match, the Portuguese coach counted in particular on his reference, Chris Wood, accompanied by Callum Hudson-Odoi and Anthony Elanga, while Arne Slot relied on Gakpo, Mo Salah and Luis Diaz to dynamite the Forest defense.

However, it started off badly for the Reds, who were quickly picked up cold. After a few fairly contested minutes, the home team opened the scoring. Chris Wood thus scored his thirteenth goal of the season in the Premier League, with a well-placed shot at the opposite post following a caviar from Elanga, who had launched it perfectly behind the defense (1-0, 8th). Behind, the Liverpuldiens took control of the match, but struggled to react, with a lot of possession but no chances to be had. The Reds’ offensive players even made a lot of mistakes, and Diaz and Salah, devilishly good in recent weeks, were erased and well muzzled by their counterparts in the evening.

Salts disgusted Liverpool

The second period started at a fairly similar pace: quite dull, with regular interruptions, and little spectacle. The clock ticked down, and inevitably, Forest began to adopt an increasingly defensive attitude, as tension mounted on the pitch. At the hour mark, Liverpool still had not had a single shot on target; unprecedented for the Reds this season. On a corner kicked by Tsimikas, Diogo Jota was rather lonely and placed a perfect cross header to equalize in a register which is not his however (1-1, 66th).

Enough to revive Liverpool a little, who were starting to show more bite and were starting to increase their attacks. The Portuguese also tried to score a double, but Matz Sels intervened well (69th). The Belgian goalkeeper did it again, still in front of Jota (77th), while things were getting hotter and hotter in his area. Nottingham resisted as best they could thanks to the small exploits of their goalkeeper, who made another save on a curl from Salah (88th), just as he was very vigilant on this cross shot from Gakpo (90th + 3). And the score no longer changed. This draw point still allows the Reds to take a seven-point lead over Arsenal, while Forest overtakes the Gunners, who have a game in hand, and are therefore now second.
