With Barcelona scouring the market for a new manager to replace Xavi Hernandez at the end of the season, Roberto De Zerbi has emerged as a strong contender for the job.

The 44-year-old has been doing a brilliant job at Brighton & Hove Albion since taking over the reins of the Premier League in 2022.

De Zerbi has had previous stints with Sassuolo and Shakhtar Donetsk and has garnered a very good reputation for the way his teams play and his backing of young talents.

Some reports have gone as far as saying that the Premier League club manager has been chosen as the candidate to replace Xavi by Barça.

De Zerbi likes the idea of managing in Spain

Now, journalist Toni Juanmarti is reporting that De Zerbi would like the idea of coaching in Spain amidst the interest from Barcelona.

The 44-year-old hinted in a recent interview that he is open to new experiences and is eager to manage a team where he can challenge for titles.

And now it is claimed that he would like the idea of managing in Spain, even as Barcelona keep a close watch on him.

Finances could be an issue

However, the report from Toni Juanmarti goes on to mention that financial issues could become a hindrance for Barcelona in their bid to appoint De Zerbi.

The Italian tactician has a contract with Brighton & Hove Albion until the summer of 2026, with the deal believed to contain a buyout clause worth €10 million.

Barcelona, given their economic situation, might see that as an issue, which could hinder their pursuit of De Zerbi, who is also being courted by other clubs like Liverpool.
