Premier League: Manchester City and Chelsea threatened with expulsion

The Premier League is not joking. In recent months, several clubs have been in the sights of British governing bodies. On November 17, Everton received 10 penalty points for violating the rules of profitability and sustainability of the English championship. But the Toffees appealed and the sanction was ultimately reduced to 6 penalty points. This week, Nottingham Forest was in turn caught by the patrol.

Several clubs sanctioned this season

The English team committed several infractions. In particular, it exceeded the loss limit authorized by the English financial authorities. For all these reasons, Forest received 4 penalty points. A decision which angered the club, ranked in 18th place. This is not enough to reassure Chelsea and Manchester City, who are also in the sights of the Premier League.

It's no secret that the Skyblues are accused of violating 115 rules related to financial fair play. That's way more than Nottingham Forest and Everton. The English champions, who already filed an appeal a few months ago, vehemently contest the accusations made in February 2023. An independent commission will begin to study the case at the end of the fall. The verdict should be delivered in the summer of 2025. On the Chelsea side, we also have concerns.

City and Chelsea risk big

Malfeasance committed during the Roman Abramovich era was reported last summer. The Sun explains that agents were paid by the Blues from accounts that do not belong to the club. Aware of this, Todd Boehly had put £150 million (around 175 million euros) aside to cover legal costs linked to this affair. In bad news, Londoners and Mancunians learned some very bad news.

The Sun explains that they were warned that they could be kicked out of the Premier League if they were ever found guilty. A final and radical sanction that both teams fear. While waiting to know what sauce they will be eaten with, Manchester City and Chelsea are patient and preparing their defense behind the scenes. The match has only just begun…
