Premier League Match Centre gives explanations on three massive Everton v Newcastle calls

Ahead of this 2024/25 season, the Premier League Match Centre was introduced on Twitter/X.

The new Premier League Match Centre Twitter/X account launched in August 2024 – Explaining what the aim of it was to:

‘Welcome to the Premier League Match Centre X account. This page will provide live updates from Stockley Park including information directly from the VAR Hub. We will issue near-live updates on operational matters from all matches – including clarification on refereeing and VAR.

Refereeing and VAR clarifications will be based on the factual information from the VAR Hub and the Premier League Match Centre. Where necessary, additional information on Laws of the Game and VAR process from PGMOL experts will be communicated.

This account is open for all supporters to follow with the aim of increasing transparency around VAR and officiating in the Premier League.’

The Premier League Match Centre gave these explanations on three significant moments during Everton 0 Newcastle 0:

18’ VAR OVERTURN

‘Doucouré’s goal was awarded on-field. The VAR checked for a potential offside against Doucouré and recommended that the goal was disallowed.’

31’ VAR OVERTURN

‘The referee’s call of no penalty for the challenge by Tarkowski on Tonali is checked by VAR, who recommended an on-field review deeming that this was a non-footballing action. The referee then awarded a penalty to Newcastle United.’

‘The referee’s call of no penalty for the challenge between Calvert-Lewin and Burn is checked and confirmed by VAR – deeming that Calvert-Lewin kicked the back of Burn’s leg.’
