Signing a new midfielder will be one of Barcelona’s priorities heading into the summer transfer window.
The club have been linked with a series of midfielders across Europe, with Amadou Onana emerging as one of the options.
Currently plying his trade at Everton, Onana has made a solid impression in the Premier League, and in a boost for Barcelona, the midfielder has made an eyebrow-raising claim about his future.
Amadou Onana on his future
In a recent interaction with Het Laatste Nieuws, Onana has admitted that he will try to perform well in the upcoming Euro 2024 in order to impress top clubs in Europe.
“In previous tournaments, we have seen that players who did well made the step up to the best clubs. That is something I strive for. I want to present myself at the top of Europe and show what I have to offer. This European Championship It’s a stage,” Onana said (h/t Mundo Deportivo).

Onana is likely to play a key role for Belgium in midfield, alongside Youri Tielemans and Arthur Vermeeren.
Do Barcelona have a chance?
Amadou Onana’s comments fully indicate that the midfielder is ready to leave Everton in the coming summer.
His comments also come at a time when Everton are going through a financial crunch. The aforementioned report speculates that Everton may have to lower Onana’s asking price in order to expedite his sale.
Barcelona stand to gain from this recent development. But as things stand, the Catalans are awaiting a final call from La Liga regarding the club’s spending limit for the summer ahead.
Once La Liga informs Barcelona’s margins, the club are expected to make a move for a new midfielder, with the Guido Rodriguez deal already pending.
