Premier League side readying loan move for Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale

Nottingham Forest are interested in signing Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale this summer, but want the England international on loan.

The 26-year-old has fallen behind David Raya in the pecking order at the Emirates and his first team opportunities look to be very limited going forward.

Ramsdale made just 11 appearances in all competitions last season, behind Raya in contention for the gloves in the Premier League and Champions League.

The Sun report that Nottingham Forest are keen to take advantage of the situation and sign the stopper this summer.

However, Arsenal are asking for £50m for the former Bournemouth man and Forest are not going to meet that asking price.

Instead, the City Ground side are willing to wait until late in the transfer window and hope to sign Ramsdale on a short-term deal, covering his wages in full.

Whether or not that ploy will be successful is yet to be seen, but it is a risky strategy in a summer which could see something of a goalkeeper merry-go-round.

Sam Johnstone is another target for Nottingham Forest as he is likely to leave Crystal Palace this summer after falling behind Dean Henderson at Selhurst Park.

There is no shortage of interest in the 31-year-old, with the likes of Wolves, Southampton, Bournemouth and Leicester all reportedly interested in the England international.

If Forest wait on moving for Ramsdale until late in the window then they may well miss out on Johnstone.

Arsenal are also looking to bring in another goalkeeper, with Ramsdale expected to leave, and have already seen a bid turned down for Wolves stopper Daniel Bentley.

The 31-year-old has only ever made five Premier League appearances, but is very experienced at lower levels, racking up over 400 appearances having played for the likes of Southend, Bristol City and Brentford.

The Gunners see him as a safe pair of hands to be back-up to Raya, but their eye-catchingly low bid of £50,000 was rejected by Wolves earlier this month, as reported by the BBC.
