The race for the Premier League top six places is on.
An interesting Saturday set of results in the top tier.
When it comes to who will finish Premier League top six (and other variations, in terms of final positions in the table), an ever changing picture.
These were the Premier League results at the weekend:
Newcastle United 4 Tottenham 0
Brentford 2 Sheff Utd 0
Burnley 1 Brighton 1
Man City 5 Luton 1
Forest 2 Wolves 2
Bournemouth 2 Man U 2
Sunday 14 April
Liverpool 0 Palace 1
West Ham 0 Fulham 2
Arsenal 0 Villa 2
This is the updated Premier League table on this Monday (15 April 2024) morning:
The Premier League fixture still to be played this weekend:
Monday 15 April
Chelsea v Everton (8pm)
So how have the punters and bookies reacted to Newcastle United hammering Tottenham and the other outcomes of rivals in PL matches this weekend?
Listed below are the updated general Premier League odds now available from the various bookies for this 2023/24 season:
Finish top of the table:
4/9 Man City
9/2 Arsenal
6/1 Liverpool
4,500/1 Tottenham
4,500/1 Aston Villa
Finish top four:
No offers Man City
No offers Liverpool
No offers Arsenal
1/2 Villa
7/4 Tottenham
200/1 Newcastle United
250/1 Chelsea
300/1 Man U
Finish Premier League top six (in brackets what the odds were before this weekend’s results):
No offers Man City
No offers Liverpool
No offers Arsenal
No offers Tottenham (1/100)
No offers Villa (1/100)
6/5 Newcastle United (9/4)
5/4 Man U (4/5)
6/1 Chelsea (5/1)
80/1 Brighton (40/1)
150/1 West Ham (33/1)
So a massive shift, Newcastle United are now favourites to get that top six spot, moving ahead of Man U in both the Premier League table and in the bookies odds.
Currently, Newcastle United are now 23 points off top spot, 13 points off Premier League top four and in sixth place – above Man U on goal difference.
An almost perfect set of results this weekend, as well as United hammering Tottenham, we saw West Ham lose, whilst Man U, Wolves and Brighton all just picked up a point.
The bookies clearly seeing it as a two and a half horse race but if Chelsea fail to beat Everton tonight, then a clear two horse race between Newcastle United and Man U.
Can Eddie Howe and his team take advantage of a remaining schedule (see below) that sees four of their remaining six matches against clubs in the bottom seven?
