President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo yesterday inaugurated the 40.4-km Bechem-Techimantia-Akomandan trunk road in the Ahafo Region.
The project, which started in September 2020 and completed in December 2023, was constructed at the cost of 50 million Euros funding from the government and Deutsch Bank.
The project was executed by the Rango Construction Company and Messers Gabrielle SA construction of Portugal.
Addressing a durbar of chiefs and people of Techimantia in the Tano South Municipality of the Ahafo Region, President Akufo-Addo said the road project carried national, regional and international traffic, thereby fostering economic development as well as regional trade and integration.
The road, he noted, provided an important link between Dwaso, Ashanti Regional capital and Techiman in the Bono East Region, including access from Bechem major town roads boosting agricultural economic activities along the corridor.
President Akufo–Addo said the completion of the Bechem-Techimantia-Akomandan forms part of measures put in place by the government to improve road networks in the country.
He announced that since 2017 his government had constructed 12,830 km of roads with six interchanges across the country, surpassing the 4,636 km of roads and five interchanges constructed by the previous government.
These, he said, included asphaltic overlay, new construction, gravelling, rehabilitation, surfacing and resealing with 35 Bridges dotted across the country.
Government, the President said, was constructing 10 new interchanges dotted around Nungua, Savanna, Suame, among other places which were in various stages of completing.
He commended Mr Akwasi Amoako Atta, the former Minister of Roads and Highways for the completion of the project and his successor, Mr Francis Asenso Boakye.
He called on the Ministry of Roads and Highways to ensure they enforce the axle- load to protect the huge investment in the road sector.
President also commended the Highways Minister, the contractor and all other stakeholders for ensuring the completion of the project.
The Minister of Roads and Highways, Mr Francis Asenso Boakye, said the completion of the Bechem-Techimantia Akomandan Road project was a testament to the government’s commitment to the road sector to improve socio-economic development of the country.
He said as part of the project, new access roads and drains had been provided for the adjoining communities and existing ones had been expanded.
He said street lights had also been provided to ensure security in the area.
The Krontinene of Techimantia Traditional Council, Nana Ampong Kromantag ll, also commended the government for the early completion of the project.
That, he said, had elevated and opened the area, boosting agricultural and economic activities.
He pledged the support of the chiefs and people of the area to the government
